» Griha Shiksha
Griha Shiksha is a Hindi word which means ‘Education in Home’. It is a home-based schooling programme by Interserve which provides learning during the primary years of schooling to children of professionals serving in rural areas and others in urban areas desiring alternate form of education. It supports parents/adults to nurture children before they are sent to boarding and other formal schools.
The concept of Griha Shiksha emerged as it was observed that a number of professionals from health care sector tend to move out of rural areas to settle in the cities to be able to provide good quality education for their children. Due to this field reality, the rural population is deprived of appropriate and professional medical care. Therefore, to retain these professionals in rural health care, providing educational facilities for their children was the need of the hour. In rural India it has been observed that institutions offering primary and pre-primary education are poorly maintained and have very few, and often inadequately trained teachers who end up managing several classes at a time.
Hence, these professionals are often left with no choice but to migrate towards urban locations that will offer them greater options of better quality education for their children. It is therefore of paramount importance to provide alternatives to pre-primary and primary education in the form of home schooling.
Griha Shiksha provides quality education with English as the medium of instruction and enables independent, analytical and critical thinking as opposed to rote learning. The programme is designed to be self-sustaining. It envisages attaining wholistic development of children in their early formative years through effective, interactive, home-based learning which will be enjoyable for both the teacher and the learner.
